Elan Sherman, Photographer
A "renegade" wedding and documentary photographer and artist, Elan Sherman was classically trained in the ways of photography, learning to see light with the techniques espoused and developed by the great Ansel Adams. Now not only does he embrace digital photography, but he is always developing and exploring new digital techniques, combining classic photographic techniques with a cutting edge digital approach. Elan teaches and trains other photographers to use programs like Adobe Photoshop, Flash, and Dreamweaver, and to better utilize the digital tools available in this fantastic era of digital imaging. Always seeing meaning in beauty, and beauty in the stories of men and women, Elan came to Colorado and refused to leave. The people, the natural environment, the history and the opportunities found here in this beautiful state are just too wonderful to ever leave behind.
Elan Sherman comes from a family of artists. His mother has dedicated her life to art, exploring a range of mediums and techniques from painting to photography, weaving to quilt-making and many many others. Elan has vivid memories from early childhood of his mom teaching art in her in-home studio, and of visiting the many art museums in Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington D.C. with his family. Now his older brother is a successful architect in San Fransisco and his younger brother a successful painter, muralist, and designer in Pittsburgh. Elan remembers clearly the first time he photographed "with intention" that is, with an analytical eye for the elements of his picture. He was eleven years old and was photographing the world famous New Year's Day Mummer's parade in Philadelphia. 650,000+ photographs later Elan still revels in the magic of photography and cherishes documenting the lives of people the world over. Elan has shown his work in New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Denver, and is proud to have sold over 1,000 fine art photographs in his hometown of Boulder, CO.
