On your wedding day you are full of light. I can think of few other times in life when a person is so truly emanating with energy (except, perhaps, when your child is born, but that is more personal, more intimate). This is a perfect day for you. You are glowing, and your family and friends surround you, soaking up your glow, and making you glow more. I cherish these days, these moments, these moments when two people are absolutely sparkling with light. What more can I ask for, but to catch the gorgeous light of your day, to etch in silver the glorious sunshine of your love, to be in the presence of such light and beauty, and to catch it, to make it eternal, to make it stop, to make it stay with me and with you, so we may look at it day after day. I catch light constantly. In all my spare time, in all my time I could be doing other things, in much of the time I should be doing other things, I am catching light, and always I am observing it, watching its ways, so when it comes time to catch it I will know what to expect. It is what I am. It cannot be helped. I am a Light Catching Machine.
To assist in catching light I use a small box with a lens and shutter. In this box I place a polymer strip which is coated with a gel, that is in turn laden with silver. My lens focuses the light before me onto the silver molecules and in less than 100th of a second my shutter opens and closes leaving an image imbedded in the silver. I save this piece of silver gelatin coated polymer, and later introduce it to several chemicals which each in their turn transform the silver molecules into a visible image. I can further hone and reproduce this image to translate it into an expression of the light at the moment in which I caught it. My box is called a “camera” and I refer to my silver gelatin coated polymer strip, simply as “film.” With my camera and film I have produced outstanding images of light which I am sure you will appreciate. Please view some of them here on my website and tell me how you feel about them.
As a photographer in the digital age I am always learning new techniques and skills to keep up with the ever changing technology of catching and printing light. My current clients are happy to know that not only do I study the art of digital imaging, but I am a consultant to many other professional photographers, graphic designers, fabric designers, and illustrators to help them understand and utilize the technologies available to them. Because I teach other photographers and professionals about their trade, I must constantly stay ahead of the learning curve on new technologies. This translates to high quality custom digital images for you, your family, and friends.
"Observe, and be observed."
